RECALL: 2,057 LBS ground & tenderized Beef possible EColi

Town and Country Foods, Maine establishment, is recalling approximately 2,057 pounds of ground and tenderized beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 5- and 10- lb. boxes of 2-, 2.6-, 3-, and 4- oz. “Town & Country Foods XL Hamburg Patties”
  • 5- and 10- lb. boxes of 2-, 2.6-, 3-, and 4- oz. “Town & Country Foods Hamburg Patties”
  • 10- lb. box containing variously weighted bags of “Town & Country Beef for Stewing”

Jennie-O Recalls 55,000 LBS of Turkey Sold at Sams Club

An investigation of a Salmonella outbreak in 10 states found three people in Colorado, Ohio, and Wisconsin reported eating the Jennie-O ground turkey before they became ill 4-pound boxes of Jennie-O Turkey Store® "All Natural Turkey Burgers with seasonings Lean White Meat". Each box contains 12 1/3-pound individually wrapped burgers.

23,000 Pounds of Lebanon Bologna Recalled for Possible E.Coli

Palmyra Bologna Company of Pennsylvania is recalling 23,000 Pounds of Lebanon bologna, a fermented, semi-dry sausage, much like salami. Each package bears a label with establishment number "EST. 474" inside the USDA mark of inspection, in addition to lot code "01351" and the best-by date as noted above. Wellness Caned Cat Food Voluntary Recall

Letter from CEO: "WellPet is committed to delivering the very best in pet food nutrition, as nothing is more important than the well-being of our dogs and cats. So when we found through product quality testing that specific product runs of our Wellness canned cat food might contain less than adequate levels of thiamine (also known as Vitamin B1), we decided to voluntarily recall them."
Cats fed only product with inadequate levels of thiamine for several weeks may be at risk for developing a thiamine deficiency. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.

KROGER RECALLS PET FOODS DUE TO POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK

The Kroger Co. said today it is recalling select packages of pet food sold in some of its retail stores because the products may contain aflatoxin, which poses a health risk to pets. Check the List...Labels include Pet Pride, Old Yeller and Kroger Brands.....more
Note: Aflatoxin can potentially lead to liver disease in dogs; however, not all dogs exposed to aflatoxin will develop liver disease. As with any toxic exposure, development of aflatoxicosis is a dose-related occurrence. Some dogs that develop liver disease will recover; those exposed to large doses for extended periods may not.

4 Deaths and at least 11 Serious Illness, Linked to Celery Food Processing Plant

Four people died after contracting listeriosis after consuming celery that had been processed at the Sangar plant, t he Texas Department of State Health Services on Wednesday ordered Sangar Produce and Processing to immediately stop processing food and recall all products shipped from its San Antonio plant since January. This comes after state laboratory results showed Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause severe illness, in chopped celery at the plant.....More

75,000 Bags Hartz Dog Treats Recalled

A voluntary recall of nearly 75,000 bags of dog treats due to salmonella concerns, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
After random sample testing by the FDA indicated the presence of salmonella organisms in one or more 8-ounce bags of Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs.
The potentially affected treats are stamped with the lot code BZ0969101E, according to the FDA.
Hartz is urging dog owners who have purchased the recalled treats to immediately throw them away.
The FDA advises dog owners whose pets are exhibiting such symptoms as fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and nausea to seek immediate veterinary assistance.
Consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414.

Egg Noodles and Won Ton Skins Recalled Salmonella

Good Taste Noodle MFG. of Chicago, IL, is recalling its "EGG NOODLES and WONTON SKINS, labeled with production date from June 19, 2010 to August 19, 2010", because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune system. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditic and arthritis.

No illness has been reported to date in connection with using this product.

The recalled "EGG NOODLES and WONTON SKINS" may contain eggs which have been recalled by the manufacturer due to the potential contamination with Salmonella enteritidis. Consumers are urged to return these "EGG NOODLES and WONTON SKINS", labeled with production date from June 19, 2010 to August 19, 2010 to our warehouse for the full refund.

Lunch Meat Recall Wal Mart Hit Hard

Zemco Industries in Buffalo, New York, has recalled approximately 380,000 pounds of deli meat that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, that can cause a potentially fatal disease, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday.
The products subject to recall are:
-- 25.5-pound cases of "Marketside Grab and Go Sandwiches BLACK FOREST HAM With Natural Juices Coated with Caramel Color" with the number 17800 1300.
-- 28.49-pound cases of "Marketside Grab and Go Sandwiches HOT HAM, HARD SALAMI, PEPPERONI, SANDWICH PEPPERS" with the number 17803 1300.
-- 32.67-pound cases of "Marketside Grab and Go Sandwiches VIRGINIA BRAND HAM With Natural Juices, MADE IN NEW YORK, FULLY COOKED BACON, SANDWICH PICKLES, SANDWICH PEPPERS" with the number 17804 1300.
-- 25.5-pound cases of "Marketside Grab and Go Sandwiches ANGUS ROAST BEEF Coated with Caramel Color" with the number 17805 1300.
The meats were produced on dates ranging from June 18 to July 2, 2010. The "Use By" dates range from August 20 to September 10, 2010.
The products were distributed
Wal-Mart noted the recall involves Marketside Grab and Go sandwiches, but not individual packages of deli meat. "We encourage customers who recently purchased this item to return it for a full refund," the company statement said.

Egg Recall for possible Salmonella

Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa is voluntarily recalling specific Julian dates of shell eggs produced by their farms because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Eggs affected by this recall were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centers and foodservice companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. These companies distribute nationwide.

Eggs are packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps. Eggs are packed in varying sizes of cartons (6-egg cartons, dozen egg cartons, 18-egg cartons) with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946. Dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of the egg carton. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1946 223.

There have been confirmed Salmonella enteritidis illnesses relating to the shell eggs and traceback investigations are ongoing.

Consumers who believe they may have purchased these shell eggs should not eat them but should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. This recall is of shell eggs only. Other egg products produced by Wright County Eggs are not affected. more...

California Firm Recalls Frozen Ground Beef Products Due To Possible E. Coli O157: H7 Contamination

CLASS I RECALL- HEALTH RISK: HIGH
WASHINGTON, August 6, 2010 - Valley Meat Company, a Modesto, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately one million pounds of frozen ground beef patties and bulk ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

FSIS became aware of the problem on July 15 when the agency was notified by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) of a small E. coli O157:H7 cluster of illnesses with a rare strain as determined by PFGE subtyping. A total of six patients with illness onset dates between April 8 and June 18, 2010 were reported at that time. After further review, CDPH added another patient from February to the case count, bringing the count to seven. FSIS is continuing to work with the CDPH and the company on the investigation. Anyone with signs or symptoms of foodborne illness should contact a health care provider.

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number "EST. 8268" inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as a production code of 27509 through 01210. These products were produced between the dates of Oct. 2, 2009 through Jan. 12, 2010 and were distributed to retail outlets and institutional foodservice providers in California, Texas, Oregon, Arizona and internationally. FSIS and the establishment are concerned that some product may still be frozen and in consumers' freezers. FSIS strongly encourages consumers to check their freezers and immediately discard any product that is the subject of this recall.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. Kellogg recalls 28 million boxes of Breakfast Cereal

Kellogg recalled 28 million boxes of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks cereals, "saying a 'waxy' smell and flavor coming from the package liners could make people sick," reported the AP....

A Kellogg spokeswoman said about 20 people complained about the off odor, and five reported nausea and vomiting, but Kellogg maintains that the potential for serious health problems with the affected cereals is low, and the problem comes from the lining of the cereal boxes. Kellogg is working on identifying the specific substance in the liner that's causing the problem....MORE
