Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products. Especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to these products. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe or chronic illnesses.

Animals with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and/or vomiting. Some animals will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. CANDA: First Ever Documented Shellfish Toxin Possibly Mussles

A shellfish toxin has surfaced in British Columbia (BC) for the 1st time, poisoning 60 people earlier in August 2011 and raising concerns in the province's aquaculture industry. Investigators traced the outbreak to mussels that had been harvested off Cortes Island between 19 Jul 2011 and 2 Aug 2011. E-Coli Contaminated Food Ravaging Europe Has Hit US Shores

The source of an alarming E. coli outbreak in Europe that has so far left 17 dead and more than 1,500 sick has baffled experts who warn the outbreak is more severe than anything they've ever seen from the bacteria.
The strain has hit eight countries in Europe, but has been concentrated in Germany. At least two cases have surfaced in the U.S. Unknown yet whether imported or travelers.....More

10 Dead, 100's Sickened from Cucumbers in Germany

The death toll in Germany from an outbreak of E.coli caused by infected cucumbers has risen to at least 10.
The cucumbers, believed to have been imported from Spain, were infected with a severe complication of E.coli called hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS).
Hundreds of people are said to have fallen sick.
Officials in the Czech Republic said the cucumbers may have been exported there, as well as to Austria, Hungary and Luxembourg.

Voluntary Recall Grape Tomatoes for Possible Salmonella

Six L's Packing Company, Recalling Tomatoes distributed to California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia, as well as Canada. The Immokalee, Fla.-based company says the recalled product was packed on April 11 under the Cherry Berry lot code DW-H in clam shells or 20-pound cardboard containers.

The tomatoes also were used in deli salads made by Tracy-based Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. The salads were sold in Albertsons, Raley's, Safeway, Savemart, Sam's Club and Walmart stores across the West and some Midwestern states........More

The recalled Ground Meat, sold in large packages and distributed in numerous states, comes from Creekstone Farms Premium Beef of Arkansas City, Kansas. Some 14,158 pounds of beef, in a handful of varieties, are subject to the recall The beef's final "GLOBAL" destinations remain unclear since they may have been repackaged into smaller packages for sale to individual consumers and sold under different brand names.

On its website, which has no mention of the recent recall yet, Creekstone Farms boasts that it "supplies many of the nation's top grocers and restaurants with quality black angus beef products".
